How to Remove Carpet Stains Left by Baking Soda

Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is an alkaline compound that often is used to remove stains. However, the baking soda can also create stains and for their removal a mild acid, such as vinegar, should be used. The vinegar will neutralize the alkaline mixture, making it easier to remove the stain. Keep in mind that the sooner you treat a stain, the easier it will come out of the carpet. Get to the bicarb stain as soon as you notice it and you shouldn't have problems removing it.

Instructions

  1. Press a stack of three to five paper towels over the stained area to soak up as much of the spilled bicarbonate as you can if it is in liquid form. If you have spilled powdered baking soda then simply vacuum the carpet, as suggested by carpet cleaning Holborn.
  2. Saturate the area with cool water and let it sit like this for a few minutes. Do not use warm water as it can cause the baking soda to expand and set further more into the carpet.
  3. Blot at the area with a clean, white towel working from the outside of the stain towards the centre. Avoid rubbing the stain as this can push the baking soda deep into the carpet fibers, making its removal very hard.
  4. Pour a little white vinegar over the stained area to neutralize the sodium bicarbonate.
  5. Repeat all steps until the stain is removed.

If you cannot remove the stain following the above steps, you can find more tips on Internet or just by calling carpet cleaning Holborn. These professionals would be glad to share any information you need free of charge and in an extreme case to come and help cleaning your carpet.
