Maintaining your garage, tool shed or workshop in a clean and orderly state, free of dirt and cobwebs, where everything is put away in its own allocated place, is an ideal that, with a little dedication is not too difficult to achieve.
- Be brave. Giving your neglected garages, sheds and workshops a good going over may take some time, and will almost inevitably involve grazed knuckles, bad language and probably a few tears, too, but it will be well worth it in the end. You will need your scruffiest jeans, some heavy boots, protective gloves, a hat and least three uninterrupted hours (preferably when the sun's shining).
- Whatever type of outdoor storage space you have - a four-car garage, a wooden shed, or simply one of those lock-up tool boxes in the garage - unless you are naturally an extremely organized individual, it is almost bound to contain too much stuff. Most of it will be difficult to get at, and what you can reach is like to look suspiciously grungy and unpleasant.
- Get into the habit of putting items away in their correct place as soon as you've finished with them. Do not simply leave them lying around the garden where they can quickly rust, corrode or even go missing. There is not a cleaning services team working for you (probably).
