Can vinegar be used to clean hardwood floors?

The simple answer to this question is yes! Vinegar can be used to clean almost anything including hardwood floors. It is cheap, non-toxic and very good in cleaning. It works as a natural disinfectant and deodorizer and gives perfect shine to all sorts of surfaces.
When it comes to cleaning, you should use white vinegar only. It doesn’t have any colour and therefore cannot stain the surfaces you are trying to clean. Another good thing is that white vinegar is the cheapest one on the market.
So next time you do your weekend shopping, grab an extra bottle of white vinegar instead of calling cleaning services Clapham or buying expensive commercial cleaning detergents.
To clean hardwood floors with vinegar, you could follow those simple tips:
  1. Vacuum the floor carefully. Make sure you have removed all the dust, hair and dirt from the floor
  2. Make your vinegar solution. Mix one cup of white vinegar with 3 litres of warm water and stir well.
  3. Use a damp mop to mop up the floor. Make sure you wring it well, as soaking hardwood floors can make them swell
  4. Start mopping the floor from the corners and try mopping with the direction of the floorboards.
  5. Rinse the mop frequently and change the vinegar solution when it gets visibly dirty.
  6. Once you are finished mopping, you could let the floor air dry, but we recommend using a soft cotton towel to dry it. This will give perfect shine to your hardwood floors
  7. Aerate the room you have cleaned to get rid of vinegar smell. Although vinegar is non-toxic and safe for your family and pets, the smell it leaves is not very pleasant. It should be gone for no more than 10 minutes once you have opened the windows.
As you see vinegar is an effective and affordable household cleaner. Next time you decide to call a Clapham end of tenancy cleaning team or buy a strong commercial cleaning detergent, try using vinegar first. You will be surprised by the good results you will get.
