How to Clean Salad Dressing Stains

Salad dressing stains occur very often. They are quite tough to remove because most dressings contain oil. That is the reason why there are problems with those stains. The oilier the dressing is, the harder it is to remove the stain. The best thing to do is to treat the stain as soon as possible. There is a method to remove those stains even if they are dry. Here is what you need to do:

First, as soon as you notice the stain, sprinkle some cornstarch or baby powder over it. Cleaners North Harrow explain that this will start to absorb the oil right away. Leave it like that for at least 15 minutes. Then wipe of the cornstarch or powder with a clean napkin.

When you have removed as much of the stain as possible, apply some pre-wash stain remover or a dish washing liquid detergent that you use for removing grease. Launder with the hottest water that is recommended for the fabric using your normal detergent. The hot water and the detergent will break down the oils that the dressing contains. After the washing, check if the stain is gone. If it is still there, repeat the process again.

Even if you think that the stain is gone, cleaners North Harrow advise to air-dry the garment because if you put it in the dryer and there still is a little left of the stain, the heat in the dryer will set the stain deeper in and make it almost impossible to remove it.

If you are not at home and you can not apply a stain remover or baby powder, you can also use salt or an artificial sweetener. They do a great job as well.
