Carpets are associated with comfort and
style, adding elegance and finished look to your home. They are a big
investment, especially if you want the highest quality. There are
many different kinds of carpets synthetic, natural and mixed and each
has specific qualities. Your choice should be based on the place
you're putting the carpet, the amount of traffic it has to withstand,
moisture of the area, is it going to endure a lot of stains. This is
the easy part, you have to deal with cleaning and maintaining too.
Prevention of Dust on Your Carpets and
Rugs
So now that you have your new expensive
carpet what are you going to do in order to protect your investment?
If you follow some simple tips you can enjoy your floor covering
quite a lot. Some of them apply to rugs and mats, of you have them.
Do you know that carpets and rugs absorb almost eighty percent of
dust an dirt around the house? And if you don't regularly vacuum it
will start to build up and eventually 'chew' the fibers of your
carpet tearing it apart.
But how can one reduce the amount of
dust and soil accumulated in the household? Remove your shoes as you
enter the house. It is estimated that more than seventy-five percent
of the soil comes from outside, you bring it in. Weekly vacuuming
will prevent dust build ups and girt won't be able to go deep into
the fibers making stains. If you neglect regular vacuuming your
carpet may become breeder for dust mites and other microorganisms
which real to allergies and health problems.
When vacuuming, do not go in only one
direction, make cross-hatch movements to remove as much as possible.
If your carpet has an unpleasant odour you can try applying baking
soda, leave it for an hour and then vacuum. I can guarantee it works
and remember to open the windows, because ventilation is important.
If your carpet allows it it is good to steam clean it at least once a
month, invest in a small portable steam cleaner.
If you somehow wet the area do not use
iron or dryer, because you can damage the fibers due to the intense
heat. Instead use clean towel, cotton is recommended due to its
absorbing qualities. When you're dealing with stains no matter if
they're solid or liquid toy should never scrub, because you can force
the stain deep into the fabric. Blot gently and always work from the
outside of the stain towards the center, that way you won't spread
the spot further.
If you have to resort to commercial
cleaners always start from the mildest ones, like a solution of water
and vinegar. It is green and works almost every time especially if
the stain is fresh. Some of the other options are salt and lemon
juice, dish washing soap mixed with water, rubbing alcohol shaving
cream etc. For specific tough stains you better call the
professionals for help, the technicians are thoroughly trained and experienced to deal with this situations.
