How to Clean Your Wristwatch

The function of the wristwatch has changed trough the centuries to serve  into a classic jewellery. Today, having an expensive watch is a sign of high social status. Good watches cost a lot of money and it's good to know how to keep them clean and working. Unlike bracelets and bands, the wristwatch is hard to clean and it requires more time and dedication.

Should I wash my watch?
If you have this question on your mind, your wristwatch is probably water resistant. But this doesn't mean that you have to run water on it and scrub it as if you are washing your dishes. It's always better to choose the safe way, which is simply gathering some materials you probably already have at home and cleaning you watch with care.
What to do?
First of all, remove the band from the watch, if you can. Read your manual for instructions and warnings before you start cleaning the watch. Gather the materials and tools you need. Get a small bowl and fill it with lukewarm water. Get a mild dish detergent from the kitchen. Liquid dish soap would work best. Get some cotton swabs, they are good for cleaning tight areas. If your watch has a leather band, get some white vinegar. Vinegar is an excellent odor neutralizer. Also get some rubbing alcohol, but never use it on gold watch bands.
So, in general, you will need:
  • Small bowl with warm water
  • White vinegar
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Mild detergent or liquid dish soap
  • Soft cloth ( You better use a microfiber cloth )
  • Cotton swabs
Let's clean!
Put the band in a small bowl filled with lukewarm water. Add some drops of liquid dish soap to it and leave the band in the detergent mixture to soak for a few minutes, while you clean the rest of the watch. If the watch has a chain-type band, use the cotton swabs and clean even the tightest areas and edges. Apply one drop of the detergent on the top of a cotton swab. When it gets dirty, turn around the cotton swab and use the other side of it. Clean the leather band with white vinegar to remove any bad smells from it.
Remove those scratches!
It's hard to keep your watch completely safe. There are always a few scratches on the top glass of the watch. Cleaners Melbourne recommend that you use a special polish and to cover the glass with a thin layer of protective solution after you clean your watch. If you are worried that you could damage your watch when you clean it, you could always use the services of a professional.
