How to Remove Set-in Mud Stains

There are many ways to get a mud stain on your clothing and you may not always be able to take care of the stain immediately. Mud becomes a bit more difficult to remove once it sets in. You can get rid of most set-in mud stains quite easily with the proper cleaning techniques and materials. The things you will need are a blunt knife, pre-wash stain remover, laundry detergent, water and washing machine.

Start with the removing of the dried mud as advised by cleaners Acton. Use a blunt knife to scrape off as much dried mud from the stained area as possible. Then apply a pre-wash stain remover to the stain and scrub it into the fabric using your fingers. Allow the remover to sit on the clothing for about 20 minutes. Next, wash the garment into your washing machine as following the direction on clothing's care label. For white fabric, you can use ½ cup of bleach to help the stain-remover process. Add 1 cup of white vinegar to coloured clothing instead of bleach.
If the mud stain remains, cleaners Acton suggests treating them as rust stains. If you don't know how to remove rust stains, check on Internet or call your local cleaning company for some tips. However, here are some basic hints on how to deal with rust stains. First, saturate the stain in lemon juice, then rub sea salt into the stain. Let the clothing to almost dry, then wash as usual. If you don't have any lemon juice available at home, simply use white vinegar instead.
